Powertrain Research and Technology 

 

 

Powertrain Research and Development operates within FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies in cooperation with the Centro Ricerche Fiat and Elasis on the development and application of innovative technologies for improving powerplant performance, cutting engine and vehicle emissions and boosting fuel economy.

In this framework, the development of the UNIJET Common Rail system started in 1990, and was commercialised in 1997 for the first time worldwide by the Fiat Group on the Alfa Romeo 1.9 JTD version.

Development of the second generation of the Common Rail system with multiple injections (Multijet) started soon later and was used for the 1.3 SDE Multijet engine.
