Training programs
For us, training is an important resource for people’s growth and competitiveness, in order to help them “make a difference” in the business.
Regardless of whether we are developing the technical skills of a maintenance man or supporting a young manager in an international challenge, we are always result-oriented. Support on the job, simulators, Web 2.0 platforms, peer coaching, and networks of experts are just a few of the approaches – “beyond the classroom” – that allow us to develop new skills as we face real problems and help solve them.
For the Fiat Group, training also means working towards objectives, and it is an ongoing opportunity to exchange information and engage with the company’s finest minds, clients and experts from the most important technical and business schools in the world.
Performance & Leadership Management
Designed to spread the culture of the achievement of excellence to all Sectors of the Fiat Group, Performance & Leadership Management (PLM) makes it possible to evaluate and orient both individual and organizational results, aptitudes and behaviors, making people aware of their responsibilities and getting them involved in their own growth and development. Starting with the top management, at the beginning of the year each manager shares objectives and possible development initiatives with his or her entire staff in order to promote their professional growth. At the end of the year, each individual is then evaluated: in the “performance” area based on the achievement of business objectives, and in the “leadership” area based on his or her ability to guide change, manage people, and work as part of a team. The employee’s placement is then plotted on a nine-quadrant matrix that recaps his or her evaluation. During the year, each individual concentrates on achieving specific objectives, reviewing them regularly in order to have a clear vision of the progress being made. Towards the end of the year, each manager meets individually with his staff members to share the results that have been achieved. Through constant dialogue, PLM thus strives to forge open and bilateral communication.
Talent Management
In a sector like the automotive industry, characterized by enormous competitiveness, constant changes and distinctive technical skills, the ability to put the right people in key roles is fundamental. Therefore, the Fiat Group has introduced a structured process to identify the most talented human resources and accelerate their path of internal growth. The Talent Management initiative has been extended to all the countries in which Fiat operates, the different business units and – crosswise – to all hierarchical levels, in order to reinforce the corporate culture and guarantee that people have access to the best professional opportunities. Key resources, identified on the basis of their performance and leadership potential and ability to take positions of greater responsibility, are evaluated through a process that involves all levels, from their direct superior to the top management. Therefore, the main objectives of Talent Management are:
• to identify people who have good potential in order to help them pursue their careers successfully
• to plan appropriate development actions, based also on a cross-Sector approach
• to build effective succession plans
• to promote internal growth based on the organization’s needs and opportunities
