Comau

Comau is a global supplier of industrial automation systems and integrated maintenance services for the manufacturing sector. With its extensive range of solutions for welding and body assembly systems, as well as machining and mechanical assembly systems it is one of the leading players in the market.

The Sector was established in 1935, but it was not until 1978 that the activities of Comau were merged with the existing machine tool and production systems activities of Fiat and several other companies in the Turin area. Over the years, several acquisitions have been made to further strengthen the Sector’s core activities, particularly Bodywork, Mechanical Engineering and Robotics. Fiat’s acquisition of Pico in 1999 (U.S. market leader in bodywork systems) and Comau’s acquisition of Renault Automation and Sciaky structurally reinforced the Sector’s presence in major markets and its position as supplier to the principal automotive manufacturers.

Comau expanded its portfolio of activities to include the offer of on-site plant maintenance services to its customers. Significant and consistent investment in research and development of leading-edge technologies has enabled the Sector to position itself in the market as a comprehensive provider of engineering solutions: from product development to realization of automation systems for industrial processes. In addition to the automotive industry, the company also applies these solutions to other areas such as the aerospace, petrochemical, steel and foundry industries.
